We demand that you keep the following basic equipment in your kitchen, because we don't want to type "aluminum foil" 800 times in the next five years. Oh, shut up. You love it.


  • plastic wrap
  • aluminum foil
  • wax paper
  • parchment paper


  • rolling pin
  • scissors or shears
  • whisk
  • wide and narrow spatulas (preferably silicone)
  • measuring spoons
  • measuring cups or scale for dry ingredients
  • large pyrex measuring cup for liquid ingredients
  • set of sharp knives in various sizes

  • mixing bowls in various sizes
  • 5 qt (or larger) stock pot
  • 9x13" glass baking dish
  • 9x13" metal baking pan

  • heavy bottomed saucepans
