CONTEST!!

Ok, y'all. We know you are not "joiners." Trust us, we understand that. But here's the deal: When you don't participate in our contests, it breaks our heart. And when our hearts are broken, we feel the need to boil your bunnies. Capeesh?

So, to celebrate the book coming out, we're having a contest with a really freakin' huge prize. It's freakin' huge for two reasons: 1) It's mostly funded by the publisher (thank you, F+W/North Light) and 2) we have a bunch of stuff left from the LAST time we tried to give you things for free but no one wanted to play. Basically it's all kinds of craft goodies, an awesome tote to carry them in, and a free copy of the book. What more could you want?

The contest this time is multi-layered and unnecessarily complex, as is our way. You would expect nothing less from us! But we have faith that you can do it.

I was totally going to do your poetry one ... but we couldn't find our computer microphone. I felt so bad when I found out no one entered.

You must also take into consideration that November is National Novel Writing Month and that takes up a lot of time, trying to write a novel in only 30 days.

Agreed! While I'm not joining in the novel writing this month, its also difficult for me to obtain access to a digital camera...which makes submissions for some of the requirements difficult.

Oh, Zabet, it's so complicated, and with such a short deadline! I'm not writing any Great American Novels (or and any crappy pr0n, either) this month, but I couldn't possibly pull that off by the 25th! I have a day job!

Maybe, POSsibly, if you made the requirements be either all three parts of one section, or one part of each section, it would be do-able. But 9 parts? I ain't got the time, and I bet no one else does, either.

If I did manage to complete the complex entry requirements, would they need to be sent all as one email or could they be broken up?

I'm just asking cause i noticed that yousendit doesn't appear to allow you to send multiple files at once with their free account.

1) The contest was announced when the Samhain issue went up. This was a reminder post, not a debut post.

2) Entries broken into parts are perfectly acceptable, just label things nicely for us so that we can easily tell what belongs to whom.

3) Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Free stuff. Try for it or not. Whinging is not going to make us take pity, nor will it incline us towards mercy in the future.

Yeah, I saw it then. 3 1/2 weeks is still not enough. I'd say maybe extending it to the standard submission deadline would suffice, but this time of year sux for any crafting that's not giftable, and none of my family (original or chosen) are as twisted/embittered as we AntiCrafters are, with the exception of my wife. I know, I know, the season is what it is, and my family's poor taste in being "normal" is not your fault. But, dammit, I'm whingeing here!

Can people who contributed to the book take part in the contest? it almost seems as though it wouldn't be fair - but then who ever said life was fair?

I don't think the deadline is unreasonable - I think most of that you could come up with some half-assed bullshit in a night or two (and I love half-assed, as well as half-brained - I excel at them both)

I see one comment from you up there... You do know the comments are moderated, right? So they don't appear right away. We had a bitch of a time with spammers and had to start moderating. I even have to approve my own comments (which is super annoying, let me tell ya).

I was debating this until I got a mad idea for a picture for 'macabe'

Just a few questions about the costumes? Does the entire thing have to be made or can parts of it be purchased (ie-made a sweater to wear over a shirt)? Does the costume have to be our own design or is it OK if we made something from a pattern?

You guys totally rock BTW.

Yes, you can use patterns. "Purchased from a store" really more means those costumes that you buy in a bag - you know, the kind that Wal-Mart has racks and racks of. We realize components may need to be bought, like fabric or hot glue or paint or whatever. The shirt thing is fine.
