Materials

• Blank 14-count cross stitch canvas
• Embroidery floss in brown, purple, green, yellow, and black
• Embroidery needle
• Embroidery hoop

Project Notes

Feel free to choose colors more to your liking. Note that you don't have to use 14-count fabric, but using another count will affect the size of your finished product. (A higher count will make the entire thing smaller, a lower count will make the entire thing larger.) All stitches are made using only two strands of embroidery floss at a time. Need more help? Directions

Download chart if you have not already done so. [Aw, Crap chart, pdf format ]

Place canvas in hoop frame. Make sure fabric is taut but not insanely tight.

Pick a spot in the middle of your canvas to start, and pick a spot in the middle of the chart to start from. Try to make sure all your Xs cross the same way. For example, the second stitch of the X always runs from left top to right bottom and lays over the first stitch of the X. It doesn't matter how you make your X, just be consistent.

The flies have French knot bodies and running stitch wings. You can learn how to do these stitches at Stitch with the Embroiderers' Guild.

When you get to the end, stop. Voila! A masterpiece worth framing!
